  1. Dear Apprentice Jockey,
A friend of mine whose computer is too old to work this comment facility would like to know the source of some of your photos of old racecourse, particularly Torquay and Bournemouth. Could you please email willocolt@tiscali.co.uk and get in touch with him. He is writing a book on Old Racecourses and would really appreciate some information.

    Thank you
    Francesca

  2. Hello Francesca,
I'm thinking maybe the reason your friend couldn't make a comment might be to do with the web browser he uses. I use Internet Explorer but for some reason I'm not able to post comments either... I have to switch to Google Chrome Browser and then I can post comments with no hitches but I have no idea why that is.

Yes sure I'll email your friend... The images posted here come from a very wide range of sources but off the top of my head I remember the Torquay ones are from non-racing books, more like local interest publications I'd say.

    Best Wishes

  3. all i can say about this site is.....wow! this is terrific,a dream come true. all the old pics and stories of jockeys and trainers that i remember from my childhood and teen years, i've never spent a happier couple of hours on this computer as i have done tonight. and the days racing runners and riders (plus the results) have made me one happy fella. all i started out to do tonight was download some pics of my favourite national horse, team spirit, and then i went on to pics of the one and only lester piggott, then somehow i found myself on this brilliant racing history site and it's the best bit of serendipity i could have wished for. i don't make a habit of joining any sites but i've made an exception with THE APPRENTICE JOCKEY, and i'm more than glad to do so.
to whoever is rsponsible for all of this, thank you with all my heart.

  4. Hello Kev,
Thank you so much for the terrific compliments about the website. It's not only very pleasing to hear such great appreciation but also totally inspirational... I was always searching for a good horse-racing site that dealt mainly with nostalgia and having never really found what I was looking for I decided to have a go myself and it's great to hear that people like the site. Did you know there is a video of Team Spirit winning the National at Pathe News? You can see it here -

I can probably find you some Team Spirit stuff... like news cuttings and maybe one or two photos so I'll have a look and mail you within this site so I can then pass them on to you.

    Best Wishes and Thank you!
