  1. Is that the same Roy Podmore who worked for Scobie Breasley when he returned to Epsom?

  2. There's a little bit about Bobby Ellott here from 2009,still active. I hadn't realised he had trained for a while.

  3. To be absolutely honest I don't know if that's the same Roy Podmore, other than he did work ride for Benstead's stable at one time. I wouldn't have thought it's that common a name so it could well be him. Bill Eacott looks in at the website sometimes and he might know as I know he wrote books about Epsom trainers and knows a lot about the trainers and jockeys from there.

  4. Thanks Felix, I hadn't seen that one before... I did see one from April this year where it was Bobby's 70th birthday. I knew he went training for a few years and of course his knowledge and experience was inspirational in Mark Johnston's yard.

Also I do know that Bobby not only has his son Andrew riding as jockey but also has a nephew named Stewart Elliott who won the Kentucky Derby on a horse name Smarty Jones in I think it was 2004. This must reinstate Essex to an icon of horse racing as I'm sure you know that Bobby lived in Essex at one time!

  5. I can remember Roy Podmore at John Benstead's. I think he was at Peter Thrale's before that (as was Benstead). But not sure about him working for Scobie, I will try and find out.

  6. There was a Roy Podmore who became Scobie's head lad when he trained from the Epsom racecourse stables.
