This brought back some memories. I used to ride Oui Monsieur when at Tommy Gosling's yard. Sidney Thompson was the name of my Father although not the same person who the race was named after. Also in this race a very good friend of mine had a ride, Joe Blanks. Joe was tragically killed in 1981 following a fall at the same course. Joe was a diamond. RIP Joe.
Hi Graham, Great to hear that you not only recognised and knew one the runners at Brighton but that you had ridden the horse at home too! More so seeing some of your old pals riding there too especially Joe Blanks was a great prospect a very sad loss to the racing world. A great coincidence too with the Sidney Thompson Memorial Stakes... well pleased I posted it now!
Best Wishes Burnsy
P.S. A link below to a little about Joe Blanks that I think you'll be interested in...

I've just been reading about Joe on the Findon site. Nobody could make swearing sound as good as Captain Price!
ReplyDeleteLol... Did you notice also on the Brighton card that your mate Paul Cheese rode the top weight in the 3.15!
ReplyDeleteYes I did, it's Phillip though! I heard he went from Epsom to Lambourne, I wonder where he is now.
