  2. I rememberas a teenager backing one of Mr Kerrs horses called Fiery Fred, It was ridden by an apprentice for John Benstead called Alan Watlow, it won at 33/1 . Alan lived a few doors away from me in Epsom and it eas one of his first winners.

  3. Hello Ron,
    I found a news clipping of the Fiery Fred race in an online newspaper archive... It was the 4th of August 1966 at Brighton and you're spot on Alan Watlow rode him claiming 5lbs allowance and he won at 33/1... he beat a Noel Murless horse named Cholo into 2nd place ridden by Lester Piggott.

    Alan rode for Staff Ingham and John Benstead. He rode quite a few winners but struggled once he lost his allowance.

  7. hi Ron - my dad, Alan Watlow didnt have weight issues, where did you get that informaion from as its wrong. He stayed the same weight till he died
