1977 - The curtain comes down at Lanark Racecourse
The last meeting at the track took place on the eighteenth of October 1977... Great to see that the opening race on the card carried the name of Peter Poston who was a regular at Lanark and the other Scottish tracks for many years, he had a runner in the race and it would have been great to see him sign off from Lanark with a winner but it wasn't to be. All in all a good day for the punters with five out of the seven favourites obliging although the honour of being the last ever winner at Lanark went to jockey John Lowe and trainer Bill Elsey with the 15/2 shot Bird of Fortune.

Thanks for that Burnsy - but a third place for PJP is pretty good going. The price though of 33/1 is fairly typical.
ReplyDeleteHi Felix,
ReplyDeleteI thought the very mention of Peter J Poston would interest you... I was thinking about trying to do an article on PJP and would appreciate it if I could make use of your news clipping from the sixties as it would make a very good basis for a story about him especially as the news clipping is the largest piece of Poston related material on the web!
I found out a couple of little snippets that I hadn't been aware of before in that...
a) He became a jockey's agent at one time
b) He had one or more winners over hurdles
